NLSP looks forward to welcoming EJA Veterans' Rights Fellow!

"For nearly six decades, Neighborhood Legal Services Program of the District of Columbia (NLSP) has been an integral part of the city’s communities, providing free civil legal services to low-income residents in critical areas of need. We look forward to working with Equal Justice America on a two-year fellowship to expand services for veterans while providing an opportunity for a recent law graduate to follow their passion and join us in the fight for equal justice."
– Karen A. Newton Cole, Executive Director

"Homeless and low-income veterans are often faced with inequities upon their discharge from military service. Recognizing this, Neighborhood Legal Services Program of the District of Columbia assists D.C. veterans with accessing justice by providing them with free legal assistance. We are grateful for EJA’s partnership and are excited to have a new fellow join us in this important commitment. This two-year fellowship will help to expand our work with homeless and low-income veterans facing legal issues. We appreciate the ability to serve our veterans by providing them with legal assistance and are thrilled to offer an invaluable legal experience to a recent local law school graduate."
– Sakinda Skinner, Litigation and Advocacy Director

"NLSP’s Economic Security Unit provides veterans with legal assistance accessing public benefits, with their discharge status, and helps them attain and maintain economic security. We are honored to partner with EJA to protect the interests of those who volunteered to serve our country, and look forward to working with and mentoring the EJA fellow."
– Vicki King Taitano, Managing Attorney, Economic Security Unit

"Determining eligibility for Social Security disability benefits and/or VA disability benefits is key to increasing income stability for low-income Veterans and their families and allows Veterans to explore broader options for benefits that may supplement VA health care services. We are thrilled to have an EJA Fellow join NLSP’s Economic Security team to focus on the disability needs of DC residents who are Veterans and to support our commitment to expand our outreach and delivery of legal services to Veterans."
– Janice Johnson Hunter, Staff Attorney, Economic Security Unit
