From EJA Fellow to Partner and Mentor: Matthew Young Comes Full Circle
More than a decade ago, Matthew Young spent a summer as an Equal Justice America Fellow while attending Harvard Law School.
Today, Dr. Matt Young is both a physician and attorney and a partner at Ross Feller Casey in Philadelphia, where he represents patients and families harmed by medical negligence. His work focuses on holding healthcare systems accountable and advocating for families affected by catastrophic injury and wrongful death.
Matt’s career grew from deeply personal experience. After losing his father to medical malpractice, he ultimately combined his medical and legal training to advocate for people navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
His connection to EJA has now come full circle.
This summer, Matt will return to the EJA community as a mentor, sharing his experience with a new generation of Fellows beginning their own legal careers.
EJA alumni follow many different paths. They become legal aid and civil-rights attorneys, policymakers, government lawyers and private practitioners. What connects them is the experience of putting their legal education to work on behalf of real people early in their careers.
The progression from Fellow to accomplished attorney to mentor is exactly the kind of long-term community EJA seeks to build. Each summer’s Fellows are not simply completing placements. They are joining a national network of lawyers and advocates whose impact can continue for decades.
