Maryland State Bar Foundation Awards a $2,000 Grant for EJA Fall Fellowship

October 21, 2024

The Maryland State Bar Foundation has awarded a $2,000 grant to Equal Justice America to fund a Fall Fellowship for University of Baltimore law student Kelly Swanhart. Kelly will work this fall in the Frederick office of Maryland Legal Aid.

Kelly received a Summer 2024 EJA Fellowship working in the same legal aid office. We are excited that she can continue the important work this fall. This is how Kelly described her EJA Summer Fellowship.

“This experience has been nothing short of transformative, both professionally and personally. During my time at MLA, I've had the privilege of working alongside dedicated attorneys and staff who tirelessly advocate for those who often have nowhere else to turn. From assisting clients facing eviction to helping individuals navigate complex government benefit systems, every day brought new challenges and opportunities to make a real difference in people's lives.”

Nina Shore, the Chief Attorney at Maryland Legal Aid wrote that Kelly’s Summer Fellowship “provided us the opportunity to share the importance of working toward equality for all. The Fellowship made it possible for Ms. Swanhart to make a difference in people’s lives and we are sincerely grateful for her hard work and dedication.”

Equal Justice America is deeply grateful to the Maryland State Bar Foundation for making it possible for Kelly to continue this important work.
