Patrick Malone's “Representing Real People” Scholarship Program
Patrick Malone, a long-time supporter of Equal Justice America, sponsors his own scholarship program that puts law students to work “Representing Real People”—especially those who might otherwise struggle to afford legal help.
In the tenth year of the program, the law firm of Patrick Malone & Associates provided $25,000 in scholarships through its Representing Real People initiative. The program encourages law students to devote their careers to serving individuals and communities in need. This year, two law students received $5,000 scholarships, and fifteen received $1,000 awards.
“I found myself moved and overwhelmed by the many stories of dedication told by our applicants,” Patrick Malone said. “We’re delighted to be able to help start these students on a path toward good careers representing real clients who need quality lawyering.”
The Representing Real People scholarships support students committed to careers representing individuals—particularly those facing economic hardship. Suitable fields of law include immigration, tenant rights, employment (for individual employees and unions), family law, disability rights, estates and trusts, criminal defense for indigent clients, and public interest work focused on individual rights.
Patrick Malone’s commitment to empowering future lawyers fully aligns with Equal Justice America’s mission. Both initiatives share a deep belief that talented, dedicated law students can change lives when given the opportunity to represent people who need legal help the most.
Equal Justice America extends its heartfelt thanks to Patrick Malone for his longstanding partnership and steadfast support of our mission to expand access to justice.
