University of Pennsylvania Law School

The following University of Pennsylvania law students have received fellowships from Equal Justice America. These fellowships are made possible by contributions from University of Pennsylvania alumni. With continued support from the alumni, we look forward to putting many more University of Pennsylvania law students to work providing vitally needed legal assistance to the poor.

(Equal Justice America is an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation unaffiliated with any law school.)

"I am incredibly grateful for all of the experiences I had this summer and am excited to enter my last year of law school with a wealth of knowledge about legal aid lawyering. I’m very thankful for Equal Justice America and the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School for making my work at the OLC this summer possible."

An invaluable lesson that I learned this summer was the importance of empathy, and how sometimes “winning” or “losing” a case can come secondary to helping a person feel seen and known. This felt especially important in legal services work when so often folks are dissuaded or intimidated by the legal system – one that can be impossibly unkind and inaccessible to folks of marginalized identities.

Not only did I learn an excessive amount in a short period of time, my respect for the people who do this work also deepened tenfold. I’m beyond grateful for everything Equal Justice America did to make this summer possible for me, and for the knowledge that from here on out I will remain part of the Equal Justice America Fellowship network!
