SUMMER 2025 NEWSLETTER
Equal Justice America is proud to build on its longstanding support for immigration advocacy with a new two-year post-graduate Immigration Fellowship at Legal Aid Chicago. Beginning this fall, EJA will sponsor recent Northwestern Law graduate Marian Woznica to provide full-time legal representation to individuals navigating complex and high-stakes immigration proceedings.
“We’re grateful for our longstanding partnership with Equal Justice America and are excited to welcome Marian Woznica this fall as our EJA Immigration Fellow, advancing critical protections for those at risk.”
— Kate Shank, Executive Director, Legal Aid Chicago
Marian brings both personal roots and professional resolve to this work. The daughter of two parents who spent their careers working with Chicago’s immigrant communities, she grew up immersed in stories of resilience and resistance. Her early interest in immigrant justice deepened through direct service with migrant farmworkers and legal advocacy for Spanish-speaking immigrants during law school.
“In law school, I had the fortune of assisting Spanish-speaking immigrants seek relief from that cycle of violence by obtaining legal status through the immigration system. Providing direct services to clients taught me how our country not only relies on, but also exploits, the immigrant experience, and traps immigrants in a cycle of structural violence,” she wrote in her EJA application. “Witnessing the current attack on our nation’s immigrants has reinvigorated my passion for representing these communities and securing their rights through an increasingly fraught process.”
